Introduction
Greenville Area Dog Club is a nonprofit organization offering classes to help you learn to train your dog. Your instructors are all members of the club who volunteer their time and talent because they love dogs and enjoy working with people. The instructors devote much time and planning in order to provide an efficient program for your enjoyment and benefit. All dogs are welcome to take classes.
The purpose of the club is to stimulate public interest in the training and control of dogs by offering obedience training at the community level and to foster friendship and the ideals of sportsmanship among all dog people. Our goal is to build public awareness and provide educational information about responsible dog ownership, while providing fun and exciting activities to all. We promote events of interest to owners of all breeds including mix breeds. We also encourage spay/neuter in an effort to cut down on the unwanted pet population.
Aggressive Dog Policy: If your dog lunges, growl, and barks in an aggressive manner towards people and other dogs, please seek out a professionally trained behaviorist. Greenville Area Dog Club instructors are experienced in training obedience, rally conformation, trick and agility. Our instructors are not professionally trained behaviorists. We would be glad to give you a list of resources to help you and your dog.
A parent or guardian must be present for children ages 9-17 to train their dog. If it is the opinion of the class instructor or the Director of Training that the child is not capable of handling his/her dog in class, a parent or guardian will continue with the training of the dog for the remaining classes in that session. Please see the complete rules in the Training Rules and Regulations document under the members tab located at the top of each page.

Our organized training classes also provide an opportunity for your dog to experience new things and to socialize with other dogs. Free AKC STAR Puppy evaluation will be given at the end this class. For more information please email gadcclub@gmail.com

Senior Puppy Class
Senior Puppy class is for older pups 6 – 12 months of age or has completed the puppy class. It covers the normal foundation training: sit, down, stand, heeling, come and stays. In addition to the foundation training, there will be expanded focus training. Our instructors use positive focus training techniques and games that will help your dog bring their attention back to you in distracting environments. As a result, your dog will have more confidence and the training will strengthen the bond between the two of you as you work together as a team. For more information email gadcclub@gmail.com

Beginner Obedience Class

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Evaluation
CGC Evaluations will be offered at the end of each training session. There is no age limit for your dog to be tested. Your dog must have an AKC ID number: Registration, PAL (Purebred Alternative Listing) or Canine Partners (For mixed-breed dogs) that you can apply for with your CGC. You do not have to attend the classes for your dog to be tested but doing so helps you and your dog pass the 10-skill test.
Canine Good Citizen evaluation fee of $15 will be due at the time of each evaluation.
Therapy Dog Training and Certification
Is your dog naturally calm, friendly and affectionate to strangers and other dogs? Are you interested in giving back to the community and sharing the love of your dog? If so, your dog may be a candidate to become a Therapy Dog through Therapy Dog International (TDI). In the 8-week class your dog will be temperament assessed and exposed to various environments. Beginner class is a prerequisite unless your dog can demonstrate the following: All dogs must know how to heel on a loose lead, sit, stand, down, stay, come and leave it. Our focus in this class is to prepare you and your dog to take the TDI test and pet therapy visits. Your dog must be at least 1 year old before testing. For more information email gadcclub@gmail.com
Class fee is $90.00 for the 8-week course
(Therapy Dog evaluation fee of $25.00 due at the time of evaluation).
